Soil moisture is the major factor influencing microbial properties and nitrous oxide (N2O) production. Agricultural soils can be probed under wetting, wet/dry alternating, constant conditions to evaluate combined effects of early (previous) immediate (current) on N2O emission nitrification/denitrification. In view water history upland black soil, five regimes comprising different antecedent present holding capacity (WHC) levels were set up in microcosm study. The 20% WHC was adopted as initial legacy moisture, while three statuses include WHC, dry-wet cycle, incremental moisture. Quantitative PCR 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing used assess impact current previous bacterial community composition abundance nitrification/denitrification genes (amoA, nirS, nosZ); soil physicochemical properties, monitored. production nitrifying-denitrifying communities influenced by pattern cycle. communities, especially members β-/γ-Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes Gemmatimonadetes, important explaining variation key taxonomic groups response alteration, e.g., Acidobacteria, Sphingobacteriia, Deltaproteobacteria, Methylobacterium, Gemmatimonas Pseudarthrobacter, etc., also highlighted. nitrate, ammonium nitrogen, emission, mineralization profoundly impacted showed statistically significant correlation with specific genera; nitrite/nitrate reduction could boosted high Both nitrifier denitrification heterotrophic enhanced substantially when increased above 60% WHC. These findings help mode from well associated impacts both fertility global environment.
