Natural dust storms are associated with changes to atmospheric photochemical processes, including in surface ozone, a critical global air pollutant. Here, we quantified the change ozone during for regions China by using synthesis of measurements and modeling approaches. Our results showed that notable reductions average concentration (2.0 12.2 parts per billion volume) were observed 12 storm events from 2016 2023, relative predust levels. The chemical interactions particles production processes played crucial roles explaining approximately 13 35% reduction, alongside impact intense meteorological disturbances on transport formation ozone. Among these interactions, uptake reactive nitrogen, hydroperoxyl radical could substantially contribute suppression. This study highlighted importance between severe pollution photochemistry.

Abstract Meteorological conditions and source emissions in grassland areas are quite different from those urban areas, which significantly impacts the spatiotemporal characteristics of black carbon (BC). To obtain BC typical environment China, continuous observations were carried out Etuoke Banner, a Ordos, September 8 to December 1, 2022. Banner autumn is 22.4–4667.5 ng m −3 , average concentration 456.6 accounting for 2.20% mass fraction PM 2.5 . liquid (BC generated combustion fuels) main component (accounting 79.2%); 361.7 The diurnal variations BC, solid bimodal, with peaks at 08:00 18:00. first peak mainly related traffic sources, cooking incomplete carbon‐containing substances; second may be caused by residential sources under influence meteorological unfavorable diffusion. variation absorption Ångström exponent (AAE) unimodal, 14:00. Sulfate aerosol is one of the major components secondary fine particulate matter in urban haze that has crucial impacts on social economy and public health. Among atmospheric sulfate sources, Mn(II)-catalyzed SO2 oxidation surfaces been regarded as a dominating one. In this work, we measured reaction kinetics single droplets using an optical tweezer. We show occurs at Mn(II)-active sites surface, per piecewise kinetic formulation, characterized by threshold surface Mn(II) concentration gaseous concentration. When lower than value, rate first order with respect to both SO2, agreeing our traditional knowledge. But when above threshold, becomes independent concentration, greater unity. The can serve tool estimate formation based field observation, established parametrization corrects these calculations. This framework for holds promising potential generalization various heterogeneous pathways.
