The primary objective and novelty of this work lie in the development a new four-node quadrilateral finite element based on strain-based high-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). This is first study to apply innovative approach analyze both static free vibration behaviors functionally graded (FG) plates. Another key reduction number unknowns five, unlike other theories that employ larger unknowns. achieved by applying condition zero transverse stress at top bottom surfaces FG plate assuming strains are sinusoidally distributed through thickness. material properties plates modeled vary according simple power law volume fractions their constituents. developed possesses five degrees freedom (DOFs) per node, resulting from combination two elements: membrane with DOFs, second bending three DOFs. displacement fields proposed expressed using terms strain approach, which satisfy compatibility equations rigid body modes. Furthermore, concept neutral surface introduced eliminate membrane-bending coupling. elementary stiffness mass matrices derived total potential energy principle Hamilton's principle. performance convergence validated examples literature.
