Abstract Introduction Hydroponics enables precise control over nutrient delivery, optimized water requirements and growing conditions. The combination of nanotechnology hydroponics paves the way towards sustainable agriculture with less environmental footprints. We investigated effects nano urea on model plant Arabidopsis thaliana in hydroponics. Methods A growth experiment a nitrogen-free hydroponic medium compared liquid formulation (NUF) marketed by Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) to an equimolar bulk urea. Transcriptome analysis identified molecular mechanisms enhancement. Dynamic light scattering transmission electron microscopy confirmed NUF’s negative surface charge sub-100 nm size, correlating its uptake distribution plant. Results discussion two-week 70 μM NUF led 20% higher biomass 16% chlorophyll content than Higher doses inhibited growth, whereas equivalent did not. differential expression more genes at 12 h seven days treatment. Nitrogen assimilation, photosynthesis, stress tolerance showed transcript levels On other hand, greater suppression many growth-regulating genes. After treatment, biosynthesis got up-regulated, while catabolism down-regulated urea, NUF-treated seedlings. In conclusion, outperformed for promotion A. low concentration hydroponics, leading regulation nitrogen metabolism biosynthesis. Our results suggest potential use as fertilizer agriculture.
