Abstract The rampant exploitation of fossil fuels has led to the significant energy scarcity and environmental disruption, affecting sound momentum development progress human civilization. To build a closed‐loop anthropogenic carbon cycle, biofuels employing sustainable biomass feedstocks stands at forefront advancing neutrality, yet its widespread adoption is mainly hampered by high production costs. Montmorillonite, however, garnered considerable attention serving as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst ideal economic feasibility for biofuel production, primarily due affordability, accessibility, stability, excellent plasticity. Up now, nevertheless, it merely received finite concerns interests in various using montmorillonite‐based catalysts. There no timely comprehensive review that addresses this latest relevant progress. This fills gap providing systematically summary controllable synthesis, performance enhancement, applications related different kinds including biodiesel, biohydrogenated diesel, levulinate, γ ‐valerolactone, 5‐ethoxymethylfurfural, gaseous (CO, H 2 ), cycloalkane, montmorillonite catalysts modified forms. Particularly, critically depicts design strategies montmorillonite, illustrates reaction mechanisms, assesses their viability, realizing via valorization. Overall, may offer valuable insights into cost‐effective proposes strategic recommendations advancement future development.
