Abstract I present here a rebuttal to an article in this volume wherein Kingsland and Taiz (2024) cast aspersions about have written concerning Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose (Minorsky PV, Plant Signal Behav 16:1818030, 2021) brilliant Bengali scientist who was pioneer not only physics (microwaves semi-conductors), but also elucidating the electrophysiological responses of plants environmental stimuli. The charge racism that levelled at Bose’s most powerful well-connected botanical adversary 1920s, Daniel T. MacDougal, is irrefutable: MacDougal racist, his extended South Asians, he used racist epithets referring Bose. offered no cogent arguments against measurements attacked with trope Asians were “mystics.” wielded political editorial clout publicize faulty research opposition while ignoring sizable body contemporaneous evidence support ideas. Unfortunately, given MacDougal’s stature as General Secretary American Association for Advancement Science (AAAS) tenor time, many Western scientists too ready accept uncritically proclamations fraud, incompetent, “Hindoo” mystic. one greatest minds ever contemplate plant function. It high time we, West, redress historical wrong, acknowledge enormous revolutionary contributions physiology.

Abstract Intelligence is a fundamental property for all life enabling an increased probability of survival and reproduction under wild circumstances. Kingsland Taiz (2024) think that plants are not intelligent but seem unaware the extensive literature about intelligence, memory, learning chromatin topology in plants. Their views consequently rejected. claim fake quotations shown to result from faulty reasoning lack understanding practical biology. use social media as scholarly evidence unacceptable. Darwin’s on intelligence described, their pertinence adaptive responses discussed. Justifications comments I have made concerning McClintock her “thoughtful” cell, von Sachs writings indicating purpose (teleonomy) plant behaviour, Went Thimann’s allusions Bose legacy father electrophysiology described. These scientists were usually first field knowledge, was deeper. The article finishes with brief critical analysis 36 who used condemn neurobiology no use. It concluded participants signed up false prospectus because contrary omitted.
