Biochar is a valuable product from thermochemical energy conversion technologies. Its yield, and properties vary vastly with the type of feedstock, technology operating parameters applied, which also affect potential applications. Hence, in this paper various sustainable technologies for biochar production including slow pyrolysis, fast intermediate torrefaction, microwave, gasification, flash carbonization, hydrothermal carbonization are reviewed, focus on performance analysis. The rapid urbanization witnessed in developing countries Asia and Africa has led to a substantial increase municipal solid waste (MSW) generation. However, the corresponding disposal strategies, along with constraints land resources finances, compounded by unorganized public behaviour, have resulted ineffective policy implementation monitoring. This lack of systematic targeted orientation, combined blind mapping, inefficient development many areas. review examines key challenges MSW management from 2012 2022, drawing insights 171 academic papers. Rather than solely focusing on recycling, study proposes sorting at source, optimization landfill practices, thermal treatment measures, strategies capitalize value as more pertinent solutions aligned local realities.
