Minimizing the consumption of agrochemicals, particularly nitrogen, is ultimate goal for achieving sustainable agricultural production with low cost and high economic environmental returns. The use biopolymers instead petroleum-based synthetic polymers CRFs can significantly improve sustainability crop since are biodegradable not harmful to soil quality. Lignin one most abundant that naturally exist. In this study, controlled-release fertilizers were developed using a biobased nanocomposite lignin bentonite clay mineral as coating material urea increase nitrogen efficiency. Five types (CRU) prepared two ratios modified well techniques. efficiency five nano-urea in improving growth tomato plants was studied under field conditions. CRU applied at three N levels representing 100, 50, 25% recommended dose conventional urea. results showed all treatments enhanced plant parameters, including height, number leaves, fresh weight, dry compared control. Additionally, increased total yield fruit characteristics (weight, length, diameter) marketable improved by fertilizers. Fruit firmness acidity 25 50% much higher than both 100% treatment vitamin C values lower Nitrogen uptake efficiencies (NUpE) 47–88%, which control (33%). In conclusion, an level better growth, yield, quality tomatoes fertilizer.

The growing population is driving up the demand for food, but inadequate efficiency of traditional fertilizers constraining crop production. Nanotechnology-based represent a novel strategy boosting agricultural output and show great potential as viable options in fertilizer industry, they can significantly enhance nutrient retention promote optimal growth. Very recently, slow controlled release nanofertilizers have evolved through development nanocomposites or coating techniques with aid various chemical entities. These types are more effective than normal these deliver nutrients manner be regulated by environmental physical stimuli (pH, temperature, humidity, etc.). Their use (NUE) also far better nanoparticles (individual like iron, zinc, copper etc.), demonstrate zero very little leaching. Utilizing mitigates loss from volatilization leaching offers meticulously tailored system harmonizing objective sustainable agriculture. Therefore, this review article provides insights into nanofertilizers, including preparation approaches, nutrient-release techniques, analytical detection methods, current status, role improvement, commercial viability, future perspectives.

Modern agriculture is primarily focused on the massive production of cereals and other food-based crops in a sustainable manner order to fulfill food demands an ever-increasing global population. However, intensive agricultural practices, rampant use agrochemicals, environmental factors result soil fertility degradation, pollution, disruption biodiversity, pest resistance, decline crop yields. Thus, experts are shifting their focus eco-friendly safer methods fertilization ensure sustainability. Indeed, importance plant growth-promoting microorganisms, also determined as “plant probiotics (PPs),” has gained widespread recognition, usage biofertilizers being actively promoted means mitigating harmful effects agrochemicals. As bio-elicitors, PPs promote growth colonize or tissues when administered soil, seeds, surface used alternative avoid heavy In past few years, nanotechnology brought revolution due application various nanomaterials (NMs) nano-based fertilizers increase productivity. Given beneficial properties NMs, these two can be tandem maximize benefits. combinations NMs PPs, synergistic use, its infancy but exhibited better crop-modulating terms improvement productivity, mitigation stress (drought, salinity, etc.), restoration fertility, strengthening bioeconomy. addition, proper assessment necessary before application, dose should applicable without showing any toxic impact environment microbial communities. Traditional fertilisers, though widely used, pose challenges such as low nutrient utilization efficiency and adverse environmental impacts. Controlled release fertiliser (CRF) plays an important role in sustainable agriculture. Its implementation is considered a transformative approach, promoting environmentally conscious methods for enhancing crop productivity. CRF not only prevents loss but also ensures customized pattern that aligns with plant physiological biochemical processes. Despite these advantages, has yet to find extensive adoption the commercial agricultural practices. This primarily due its cost-intensive nature, relatively modest efficiency, predominant use of petroleum-derived synthetic polymers coatings. review aims provide concise summary significant advancements, emerging materials technologies, potential future applications sustainability. Particularly, technologies plasmas, flow chemistry, metal−organic frameworks, nanotechnologies, microfluidic sensing have been explored development. While highlighting advantages CRFs, we address disadvantages discuss recommendations successful transition from traditional fertilisers maximizing their advantages.
