Abstract Sperm cells of all taxa share a common goal to reach and fertilize an ovum, yet sperm are one the most diverse cell types in nature. While structural diversity these is well recognized, functional significance variation design remains elusive. An important function spermatozoa need migrate toward ova, often over long distances foreign environment, which may include complex hostile female reproductive tract. Several comparative experimental studies have attempted address link between morphology motility, conclusions drawn from inconsistent, even within same taxa. Much what we know about internally fertilizing species has been gleaned vitro studies, for parameters vary among studies. We propose that discordant results part due lack consistency methods, conditions do not replicate those tract, overuse simple linear measures shape. Sperm competition is a widespread phenomenon that shapes male reproductive success. Ejaculates present many potential targets for postcopulatory selection (e.g., sperm morphology, count, and velocity), which are often highly correlated potentially subject to complex multivariate selection. Although on ejaculate traits has been observed in laboratory experiments, it unclear whether similarly wild populations, where individuals mate frequently over longer periods of time. We measured univariate velocity population brown anole lizards (Anolis sagrei). conducted mark-recapture study with genetic parentage assignment estimate individual found significant negative directional quadratic but we did not detect or any other traits, nor correlational trait combinations. Our results may reflect pressure males produce small ejaculates six-month season. This the first measure provides an interesting contrast experimental studies external fertilizers, have phenotypes.

Sperm traits can influence fertilisation success, but there is still much we do not understand about sperm condition dependence, that is, how depend on the male's energy acquisition and allocation. This especially pronounced in avian taxa, despite extensive observational studies sampling wild populations. In this study, collected samples before after experimentally reducing diet quality of wild-derived captive zebra finches small mixed-sex groups, which compared with individuals a control diet. We measured length components (head, midpiece, flagellum total length), proportion normal morphology, were progressively motile swimming velocity (curvilinear velocity; VCL). The only trait found to be impacted by reduced was significant decrease midpiece length. consistent emerging evidence other non-model systems, as well fact alter mitochondrial density structure tissue types. Background: Canaries have attracted people’s attention with their colors, shapes and impressive songs. The fact that canaries are domesticated easy to obtain has made these birds attractive for songbird studies. In our study, canary semen was examined at different temperature values. This study aims determine the most efficient spermatozoa examination in canaries. Methods: this five values (36, 38, 40, 42 44°C) were determined. used 6 active male Gloster each group. After collection application, a 3-day break given rest. Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) expander, which is preferred by songbirds, research. diluted 1:2 water bath specified temperatures 42, immediately motility viability. Result: When results evaluated, it seen viability rate 38°C higher than other groups 40°C gave highest terms of motility. addition 38°C, swimming speed also found be more stable over wider area groups. As result, based on data obtained from can said appropriate 38°C.
