Tomato is the most preferred host plant for Tuta absoluta, a newly emerged devastating invasive pest in China. However, no study has evaluated damage risk of T. absoluta on processed tomato worldwide. In current study, life table parameters were systematically investigated five cultivars (one fresh cultivar, four cultivars) to determine their susceptibility infestation. had better population growth ability tomato, “Dafen”, showing shorter duration preadult stage, higher lifetime fecundity, and intrinsic rate increase compared cultivars. Meanwhile, among different also showed significant differences. Th9 was susceptible attack, while Th1902, Heinz1015, Dimen2272 least suitable ones its development reproduction. summary, these are recommended commercial production reduce caused by improve integrated management strategy.

Plants and insects have coexisted for million years evolved a set of interactions which affect both organisms at different levels. developed various morphological biochemical adaptations to cope with herbivores attacks. However, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) has become the major pest threatening tomato crops worldwide without appropriated management it can cause production losses between 80 100%. The aim this study was investigate in vivo effect serine proteinase inhibitor (BTI-CMe) cysteine (Hv-CPI2) from barley on insect examine their expression defensive responses. We found that larvae fed transgenic plants co-expressing inhibitors showed notable reduction weight. Moreover, only 56% these reached adult stage. emerged adults wings deformities reduced fertility. also investigated ingestion digestive enzymes. Our results decrease larval trypsin activity. Transgenes had no harmful Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) (Heteroptera: Miridae), predator absoluta, despite attracted mirid. cystatin promoted plant defense by inducing endogenous wound inducible Proteinase 2 (Pin2) gene, increasing glandular trichomes altering emission volatile organic compounds. demonstrate usefulness co-expression enhancement resistance absoluta.
