Abstract Augmentative biological control (ABC) is crucial for the integrated pest management (IPM) of greenhouse pests. The proper calculation natural enemy:pest release ratio (NEPRR) stands out among various challenges ABC. Often, most NEPRR calculations only take into account predation/parasitism efficiency enemies, while disregarding population growth capacity, structure and/or economic thresholds. In a model system consisting Trichogramma pretiosum Riley parasitizing eggs Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) on tomatoes, we investigated whether stage‐structured Lefkovitch matrix could be used to determine suitable NEPRRs. results suggested that these models can potentially provide more precise and realistic predictions NEPRRs since they differential over time as response enemy action. also allow us choose an adaptable based parameters such period grower wishes keep below threshold.

The South American tomato pinworm or leaf miner (TLM), Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), is a serious invasive and destructive insect pest of (Solanum lycopersicum L.) worldwide. moth can cause 100% damage in crop both greenhouses open fields if control measures are not carried out. Due to the high reproduction potential, dispersal ability, tolerance environmental conditions, TLM invaded most tomato-producing countries Europe, Africa, Asia. originated America was first introduced Spain 2006 from where it spread other part world. This chapter consolidates rich literature on with emphasis invasion history, economic significance, possible management options adopted

Volatile compounds play indispensable roles in the interactions among host plants, herbivores and natural enemies. Previous studies showed that addition of buckwheat strips cotton fields could attract Peristenus spretus, dominant parasitoid Apolygus lucorum, enhance its parasitic activity. Through combined analysis Y-tube olfactometer, solid-phase microextraction (SPME), gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) electroantennography (EAG), we found male female P. spretus responded to present flowers. The five major components flowers, cis-3-hexenyl acetate (Z3HA), 4-methylanisole, 4-oxoisophorone, p-methylphenol 2-ethylhexyl salicylate, all had a significant attraction adults led positive electroantennogram responses, especially for 10 mg/mL indicating played key role selection behavior Additionally, field trials volatiles significantly increase parasitism by spretus. Our study screened active flower have an attractive effect on revealing behavioral mechanism emphasizing important plant wasps, providing theoretical basis development attractants reduction pesticides promote conservation biological control (CBC) A. lucorum.
