Literature reviews are valuable for summarizing and evaluating the available evidence in various medical fields, including nephrology. However, identifying exploring potential sources requires focus time devoted to literature searching clinicians researchers. ChatGPT is a novel artificial intelligence (AI) large language model (LLM) renowned its exceptional ability generate human-like responses across tasks. whether can effectively assist professionals relevant unclear. Therefore, this study aimed assess effectiveness of references We keyed prompt "Please provide Vancouver style their links recent on… name topic" into ChatGPT-3.5 (03/23 Version). selected all results provided by assessed them existence, relevance, author/link correctness. recorded each resource's citations, authors, title, journal name, publication year, digital object identifier (DOI), link. The relevance correctness resource were verified on Google Scholar. Of total 610 nephrology literature, only 378 (62%) existed, while 31% fabricated, 7% citations incomplete references. Notably, 122 (20%) authentic. Additionally, 256 (68%) found be incorrect, DOI was inaccurate 206 (54%) Moreover, among those with link provided, correct 20% cases, 3% irrelevant. an analysis specific topics electrolyte, hemodialysis, kidney stones that >60% or misleading, less reliable authorship ChatGPT.
