Abstract Repetitive negative thinking (RNT) is a transdiagnostic process associated with the onset, maintenance, and risk of relapse various mental disorders. However, previous research syntheses addressing effect cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on RNT are limited to specific diagnoses, treatments, or constructs (transdiagnostic RNT, worry, rumination). In present meta-analysis, we integrate findings from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) CBT across intervention types, constructs. We investigate following questions: What overall efficacy interventions all post-treatment outcomes? Which construct addressed most effectively? Are RNT-specific treatments superior in reducing than less approaches? Inclusion criteria were met by 55 studies total 4,970 participants. The compared respective control groups was moderate favor ( g = −0.67). Treatment did not differ significantly construct. −0.99) more efficacious approaches −0.56). enhanced individual in-person settings. Our results advocate dissemination practice general improvement focusing relevant processes such as RNT.
