After the catastrophic destruction of October 2005 Kashmir earthquake, first building code Pakistan was developed in 2007. The sole purpose (BCP) to incorporate advancements earthquake-resistant design fortify structures and ensure safety citizens against future seismic events. 2007, BCP not revised till 2021 include changes over time. However, recently updated version highlights that seismicity many regions is high, which truly reflected Therefore, due growing concerns about potential risks region have been incorporated into BCP. there are among researchers designed on 2007 may need fortification. current study focuses fortification existing systems were using previous codes. Non-linear viscous fluid dampers used improve resilience structures. This compares performance an reinforced concrete with without non-linear subjected a dynamic analysis. evaluated terms story displacement, drift, acceleration, energy dissipation mechanisms. Adding structure caused decrease inter-story drift by around 31.16% roof displacement reduced 36.58%. In addition that, controlled structure, more than 70% dissipated dampers. These results indicate adding significantly improved vibration system undesirous vibrations. outcomes this also provide very detailed insight usage for improving buildings can be develop effective strategies mitigate impact events already built

This study specifically focuses on the damping efficiency of a damped structure with additional viscous dampers. A two-layer steel frame eight sets dampers is used to conduct series seismic simulation shaking table tests, including non-damped without and two structures placed at 1/2 1/6 beam span, respectively. By conducting these energy dissipation, force, displacement damper, as well parameters such floor acceleration, are obtained. The main indicators calculated, ratio, inter-story utilization rate, reduction rate vertex base shear relative structure. shows that exhibit full hysteresis loops strong dissipation capacity in response significantly smaller than Under different levels, frequent earthquakes, occasional rare effect span better span. For example, ratio for X-direction artificial wave REN 19% 11%, 20% 13%, 13% patterns displacement, similar. research findings strongly indicate exhibits excellent efficiency. In future design, designers need fully consider placement within

Conventional structural optimisation techniques often result in unconventional configurations, unrealistic elements and ignore actual construction costs. This paper presents an effective performance-based framework for minimising initial material costs of realistic multi-storey reinforced concrete (RC) frames, while satisfying pre-determined performance targets under multiple seismic hazard levels as well a set practical design constraints. A new low computational-cost method is proposed to directly control specific response parameters at both the element (i.e. plastic rotation inter-storey drift). For first time, concept Uniform Damage Distribution (UDD) adopted simplify complex problem RC buildings with variables terms section sizes reinforcement ratios. The optimum solution achieved by gradually redistributing materials from strong weak parts structure, aiming fully exploit capacity. efficiency then demonstrated designs 3-, 5-, 10- 15-storey frames six spectrum-compatible earthquake records. results indicate that compared structures designed current codes, solutions required up 20 % 43 less volume steel weight, respectively. It also noted due more efficient use materials, exhibited considerably lower global damage index (up 88 %), maximum drift 58 rotations 78 %). Sensitivity analysis on record selection shows using single may not lead reliable solutions, particular tall buildings, hence records should be used process. research will economical safe regions developing multi-level computational

The construction industry is one of the main contributors to increasing carbon emissions globally. With an interest in optimising embodied superstructures, very little attention paid substructures although foundations are responsible for a considerable share total within any structures. This research focuses on minimising reinforced concrete piles and introduces novel multi-level modelling tool that can be used by designers discover full range feasible design scenarios with optimised environmental impact. Results show adjusting parameters like grade (fck), pile slenderness ratio (L/D) steel-to-concrete (As/Ac) lead significant cut final value carbon. applied case study monorail bridge showed 51.4% potential saving achieved through parameters, moreover, 72.4% achievable if this coupled switching cleaner materials.
