Abstract Climate change induced shifts in treeline position, both towards higher altitudes and latitudes induce changes soil organic matter. Eventually, matter is transported to alpine subarctic lakes with yet unknown consequences for dissolved (DOM) diversity processing. Here, we experimentally investigate the of by amending temperate lake water soil-derived DOM from above below treeline. We use ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) track molecular (i.e., chemodiversity), estimate decay measure bacterial growth efficiency. In lakes, increases chemodiversity mainly through enrichment polyphenolic highly unsaturated compounds. These compositional are associated reductions bulk compound-level reactivity reduced Our results suggest that advancement has potential enrich a large number ecosystems less biodegradable DOM, affecting community function potentially altering biogeochemical cycling carbon at high altitudes.

The occurrence of veterinary antibiotics and hydro-chemical parameters in eleven natural springs a livestock production area is evaluated, jointly with the characterization their DOM fingerprint by Orbitrap HRMS. Tetracycline sulfonamide were ubiquitous all sites, they detected at low ng L−1 concentrations, except for doxycycline, that was present μg one location. analysis revealed most molecular formulas CHO compounds (49 %–68 %), remarkable percentage containing nitrogen sulphur (16 %–23 % 11 %–24 %, respectively). Major components phenolic highly unsaturated (~90 typical soil-derived organic matter, while approximately aliphatic, suggesting may be susceptible to anthropogenic contamination sources. Comparing among spring showing different profile surface water interaction characterized having lower higher CHOS aliphatic compounds. Correlations between showed tetracyclines positively correlate oxygen-rich substances, sulfonamides relate oxygen-poor This indicates fate will controlled type groundwater.
