The
in
vitro
production
(IVP)
of
bovine
embryos
has
gained
popularity
worldwide
and
recent
years
its
use
for
producing
from
genetically
elite
heifers
cows
surpassed
the
conventional
superovulation-based
embryo
schemes.
There
are,
however,
several
issues
with
IVP
that
remain
unresolved.
One
limitation
special
concern
is
low
efficiency
embryos.
Exposure
to
reactive
oxygen
species
(ROS)
one
reason
why
diminished.
These
highly
molecules
are
generated
small
amounts
through
normal
cellular
metabolism,
but
their
abundances
increase
culture
because
oocyte
exposure
temperature
fluctuations,
light
exposure,
pH
changes,
atmospheric
tension,
suboptimal
media
formulations,
cryopreservation.
When
uncontrolled,
ROS
produce
detrimental
effects
on
structure
function
genomic
mitochondrial
DNA,
alter
DNA
methylation,
lipid
membrane
damage,
modify
protein
activity.
Several
intrinsic
enzymatic
pathways
control
abundance
antioxidants
react
reduce
potential
ROS.
This
review
will
focus
exploring
supplementing
these
antioxidant
maturation,
sperm
viability,
fertilization,
culture.

Abstract
