ABSTRACT Background and Aim The move towards Open Distance Learning (ODL) has changed students' overall lives perspectives in Bangladesh. This study aims to explore the psychological impact of ODL on Bangladeshi students, focusing academic stress, social isolation, self‐efficacy as mediators. Methods A cross‐sectional survey using a quantitative research design was used. University students programs were studied structured questionnaire 320 respondents. 7‐item scale for experience, Academic Stress Scale (ASS), UCLA Loneliness Scale, 6‐item self‐efficacy, Ryff's Psychological Well‐Being Items each rated 5‐point Likert that ranged from strongly disagree (1) agree (5). employed Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) examine construct relationships. reliability, validity, discriminant validity measures assessed by Cronbach's Alpha, Composite Reliability (CR), Average Variance Extracted (AVE), Fornell–Larcker Criterion. Path, mediation, moderation analyses additionally carried out test indirect effects self‐efficacy. Results findings demonstrate significantly predicted lower well‐being (β = −0.42) through an increase stress 0.49) isolation 0.41). are significant mediators relationship between well‐being. Self‐efficacy, however, moderated how well indicator affected health acted buffer negative 0.09). Conclusion Finally, revealed arrays come with many mental challenges, increasing among especially less self‐affected individuals. Nevertheless, results do highlight unique areas institutions higher learning can target cope these factors enhance online experiences.

The number of students enrolling in distance learning programmes is rising worldwide, making education (DE) a significant part higher (HE). Transitioning into study programme involves numerous challenges, especially for learners who face dropout rates and compromised academic performance compared to traditional on-campus students. However, when master these success becomes more likely. Nevertheless, knowledge about transitioning DE remains limited. This scoping review aims compile existing enhance understanding the critical initial phase by answering research question: “What known transition HE?”.
