Ecological carrying capacity (ECC) is central to assessing the sustainability of ecosystems, aiming quantify limits natural systems support human activities while maintaining biodiversity and resource regeneration. To assess ECC, earlier studies typically used analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method for modeling. In this study, we developed an AHP-EW based on a combination AHP entropy weight method, which considered important indicators including land use, vegetation, soil, location, topography, climate, socio-economics, constructed ECC evaluation system. The new was applied analyze spatiotemporal patterns in Urumqi from 2000 2020. results showed general decreasing trend during period 2000–2020. Among them, decreased significantly by 19.05% 2010. After 2010, rate decline slowed 14.12% due ecological conservation policies. addition, Midong District, Dabancheng County had worse ECC. Still, general, distribution each district county areas with low increasing high Cluster analysis that improved reserve areas, some built-up decrease economic development activities. Driving factor shows NDVI, climate change, land-use conversion are key factors influencing change Urumqi. This study provides ideas technical assessment arid can help formulate more effective protection strategies promote healthy stable regional ecosystems.
