ABSTRACT Riverine ecosystems exhibit significant spatial variations in their communities, and understanding of these variances is vital to comprehend the mechanisms that maintain biodiversity. This study was conducted understand pattern distribution beta diversity fish communities Bhima River basin Deccan Plateau region India. Fish data from 59 sites across 11 rivers were collected, pair‐wise β Dissimilarity site‐wise local contribution (LCβD Sorensen ) its components Turnover LCβD Nestedness calculated. Power function regression analysed decay community similarity with geographical environmental distances. Redundancy analysis performed investigate relationship between variables. Results indicated species richness declined increasing longitude west east. A negative observed . formed Ո‐shaped curve at both ends gradient, while values exhibited Ս‐shaped curve. No difference mean observed. The distance distances follows power law shape, slope this flattened distance. Precipitation, topography, temperature variation dissolved oxygen played a pivotal role shaping assemblages. provides insight into basin, which will be helpful ordination biodiversity riverine ecosystem region.

Abstract Understanding spatial variation of species composition at different scales is essential for efficient conservation planning. Here, we investigate ecological uniqueness patterns freshwater macrophyte assemblages continental extents. We explored the similarities and differences in between Europe North America relation to richness environmental variables using presence–absence data 50 × km grid cells. To describe assemblages, used an index called ‘local contribution beta diversity’ (LCBD). First, linear regression evaluate relationship richness. Second, was modelled generalized additive modelling (GAM). Third, boosted tree (BRT) analysis performed with same compare BRT results from GAM. The revealed relatively similar both continents. overall negative but showed form degree America. main driver continents mean annual temperature, further effects associated precipitation, elevation range, alkalinity proportion freshwaters a cell. Synthesis . Our that may be negatively correlated large extents, likely depend on profile area. significant influence climate suggests changes land use shape unique assemblages. Thus, strategies should consider protection measures, especially northern areas as they are expected face many future. Identifying high important implementation biodiversity practices.
