Abstract In the present work, new borosilicate glasses were prepared to examine their radiation shielding characteristics, focusing on role of increased Bi 2 O 3 concentration different parameters as determined by Phy-X software. At 0.296 MeV, mass attenuation coefficient was found be 0.105 cm /g for free-Bi glass, and it 0.266 sample with 15 mol% . The linear (LAC) investigated in 0.0395–1.460 MeV energy range. LAC very high at low range a large value variation between glass those containing , which confirmed that had significant impact glasses’ properties. effective atomic number (Z eff ) also examined, results showing an almost constant Z sample, while introduction caused notable increase. 0.0395 Bi0B70 (free-Bi 8.20, 55.09, 66.08, 70.98 addition 5, 10,

The gamma-ray shielding properties for silicate and borate glass samples were enhanced by heavy metal oxides such as Bi2O3, CdO, Y2O3. current work aims to study experimentally performance of these glasses when exposed a flux thermal neutrons. A nuclear research reactor was utilized irradiate the fabricated with various doses neutrons varied between 1.73 12.10 MGy. Additionally, fluency within dry channel IVV-2M containing 2.27E+17 15.86E+17 neutron/cm2 at irradiation times 1 7 days. After that, spectrometer detect activity concentrations from irradiated well identify new isotopes created glasses. Monte Carlo simulation code estimate absorbed dose over time period 120 days after exposure. shows almost all activities decomposed 80 irradiation. decomposition rate concentration are attributed short lifetime Ba-131 isotope which represents major radioactive sample.
