Published: April 30, 2025

This review examines third-generation dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), focusing on natural dyes due to their sustainability, non-toxicity and cost-effectiveness. It explores key dyes–chlorophyll anthocyanin–alongside others like betalain, sepia melanin, lawsone, curcumin, clathrin carminic acid. The extraction techniques from plant animal sources, along with variables pH, temperature, solvent selection the source of that affect dye adherence photoanode are also examined, evaluating effects concentration optimum conditions for application. benefits limitations in DSSCs energy applications addressed.
