Abstract Lanthanum oxide was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method varying the reaction time such as 6, 12, and 24 h. In XRD, study confirms presence of a hexagonal structure, phase remains same at different times; main goal is to assess average crystallite size prepared La 2 O 3 nanoparticles, which found in range 6 8 nm. An interesting observation from XRD data apparent increase crystalline nature synthesis extended. The UV–Vis spectroscopic studies show change band gap when changed. morphology analysis shows that image revealed particles formed were agglomerated spherical shape, with diameters ranging between 35 86 When tested for photocatalytic activity, nanoparticles degradation methylene blue dye varies. Remarkably, exhibited profound ability degrade dye, an efficiency rate hitting high 89% under halogen light illumination.
