Surgical site infections (SSIs) are one of the most common causes hospital-acquired worldwide, with significant clinical and economic implications. The aim this review was to summarize latest body evidence on associations between microbial air load SSIs. systematic conducted using revised Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA, 2020) method. Pubmed Scopus databases were searched period 2014–2024. English language articles their reports burden operating room its association surgical infections. present includes a total 36 related as an aggravating factor quality in A direct correlation occurrence SSIs established through sampling methods genetic analysis. lack consensus effectiveness laminar flow (LAF) systems underlined, while temperature-controlled seemed promising alternative. One study found that each additional person increases number bacterial colonies by 4.93 CFU/m3 another did not find changes quality. More than 20 per hour (ACH) appeared have better results improving operation room. Airborne contamination is multifactorial, some those factors, revision guidelines seems necessary. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Next-Generation Sequencing show great promise future. This calls implementation international regarding limits rooms standardized methods, well further research efficacy assessment emerging technologies based AI order reduce improve patient outcomes.
