Abstract The Kunming‐Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) highlights developing effective targets to halt and reverse the biodiversity ecosystem services crisis. Although are tightly interlinked interact in complex ways, a uniform global or national target has long ignored their interdependencies uneven distribution guide region‐ ecoregion‐specific planning. Here, we use flexible stepwise approach, incorporating high conservation values of biodiversity, carbon water interactions, identify three targeted priority areas at regional ecological jurisdictions on Qinghai‐Tibetan Plateau (QTP). We find that 49% could effectively protect about 60% carbon, ecoregion scale. However, scale, 48% have potential conserve up 70% water. QTP achieved GBF (i.e., 30% areas), more than 75% remain unprotected scales, respectively. More importantly, over 55% scale under moderate human pressure. Our spatially explicit insights demonstrate importance expanding existing protected QTP, while highlighting initiatives subnational level ensure efficient manner.

Understanding the intricate relationships among ecosystem services (ESs) and clarifying their driving factors are essential prerequisites for establishing effective management strategies. Therefore, we plotted spatial-temporal distribution of five ESs in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) urban agglomeration analyzed interactions terms trade-offs, synergies, bundles. We identified primary drivers impacting proposed recommendations spatial planning. The result revealed that (1) between 2000 2020, supply soil conservation increased most, by 52.56%, habitat quality decreased 6.92%; (2) four ES pairs were synergies six exhibited with three showing two trade-offs; (3) main influencing forces precipitation, cropland area ratio, forest ratio; (4) analysis determined exhibiting decreasing should be prioritized management, suggesting planning ecosystems based on Thus, this study provides guidance regional management.

Freshwater biodiversity has been declining in urban areas, which may threaten ecosystem functions. Although many studies have demonstrated a positive correlation between and functioning (BEF) terrestrial marine ecosystems, little is known about the BEF relationship freshwater environments, especially highly urbanized regions where water pollution major concern. Eutrophication bodies trigger algae blooms, decreasing evenness or functional divergence (FDiv) of phytoplankton communities, thus negatively affecting functioning. Through an annual field investigation, we clarified diversity functioning, represented as resource use efficiency (RUE), river northern China. Results indicated that community contributes most to driving compared environmental factors. The relative abundance dominant Bacillariophyta was positively correlated with (RUEpp) but zooplankton (RUEzp). Both were linked RUEpp RUEzp. Our findings suggest reduction seriously its potential mechanism can provide crucial reference for quality protection sustainable utilization basin.

System-based approaches are critical for addressing the complex and interconnected nature of urban ecological development restoration ecosystem services. This study adopts a system perspective to investigate spatiotemporal drivers key services, including carbon sequestration, water conservation, sediment reduction, pollution mitigation, stormwater regulation, within Yangtze River Delta Eco-Green Integrated Development Demonstration Area (YRDDA) from 2000 2020. We propose novel framework defining enhanced-efficiency service management regions (EESMR) guide targeted restoration. Our analysis revealed interplay 11, 9, 6, 10 driving factors selected highlighting heterogeneity these drivers. By overlaying factors, we identified high-efficiency priority areas EESMR that ensure high returns on investment efficient functions. system-oriented approach provided spatial guidance integrated restoration, green development, eco-planning. These findings offer valuable insights policymakers planners in other rapidly urbanizing regions, supporting formulation effective land-use policies balance environmental sustainability growth.

Delineating conservation priority areas for both preservation and restoration is essential developing adaptive ecosystem management strategies across production–living–ecological spaces (PLES). This study developed a coherent framework with four steps: (1) mapping spatial distributions of biodiversity services, (2) ranking the relative importance ecosystems spaces, (3) delineating according to human footprint ranks, (4) contrasting current networks overlapping PLES. was applied in Ganzi, China, delineate (PPAs) 8714.2 km2 11,308.1 km2, (RPAs) 36,817.7 63,578.4 under target conserve 30% 50% territories, respectively. The areas, including PPAs RPAs, achieve higher capacity than Ecological Conservation Redline (ECR) terms or service delivery. Roughly 67% PPAs, 40% total 75% large patches high are covered by ECR, indicating necessity adjust boundary conduct ECR. As PLES, encompass proportionally more ecological space (67–76%) ECR (63.5%) Ganzi (61.4%), implying lower potential conflict between local residents’ production conservation, meanwhile, new opportunities challenges sustainable development human-dominated spaces. RPAs flexible threshold impact degradation can be improved considering complex relationships indicators services. highlights incorporating features, land uses, activities different purposes context development.
