Background Monosodium glutamate (MSG) in its anionic form, glutamate, is one of the main excitatory amino acids. Excess this neurotransmitter may lead to excitotoxicity affecting neurons and astrocytes responsible for metabolism different brain areas animals. The aim study was investigate immunoreactivity glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) S100β caudate nucleus rats under condition elevated levels. Methods: Fifteen were divided into a control group receiving saline MSG2 MSG4 groups 2 g/kg b.w. MSG 4 MSG, respectively, 3 days. An immunohistochemical reaction conducted on frontal sections containing with use antibodies against GFAP S100β. Results: Analyses indicated density immunoreactive studied proteins animals MSG. cells also demonstrated increased immunostaining intensity both especially group. number GFAP-positive processes similar all groups. Conclusions: studies demonstrate potential response effect administration nucleus. It shown that GFAP- S100β-positive act differently, suggesting distinct roles these excitotoxicity.

Abstract Albino Wistar rats refer to a strain of the which is part Norway rat species; it popular animal model in many areas research specifically neuroscience, pharmacology, and toxicology among others. These are particularly valuable due their high level genetic homogeneity, ease handling, reproducible results have kept them list requirements for researchers who want minimize extraneous variables studies. One can bet on fact that inbred, therefore, even disposition normalized. originated from United States America 19 th century. In several generations breeding, this was used establish desired characteristics, resulted greatly reduced variability. Thus, throughout whole process research, one be sure study will not any relation differences participants. addition, kind inoffensive takes well experimental environment. This ensures animals do subdued or fought before getting sample does stress researcher. Furthermore, they shorter gestation period, approximately 21 days, short existence 2 years. Such features make suitable by would wish get fast result those small budget. It should also pointed out, although, there some drawbacks employing as subjects well. Reduced expectancy reduce possibilities especially trials concerned with aging late outcomes interventions. Experimentalists must put these aspects into consideration choosing type use. Nevertheless, despite drawbacks, still considered source taking account all mentioned advantages. Because reproducibility, uniformity, ability adapt laboratory conditions, provide perfect dissecting complex biological functions generating new models affecting mankind. Due advancement scientific knowledge technology, 1 day overcome said-named limitations associated use models.
