Idealized sources are commonly used to reproduce the traffic emission in street canyons experimental and numerical investigations. However, it remains unclear whether idealized can accurately pollutant dispersion compared more realistic sources. The goal of this paper is investigate impact on traffic-induced concentration a canyon by simulation with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). First, scale-adaptive (SAS) results mean velocity wind-tunnel (WT) data for line (ILS) satisfactory agreement found between SAS WT results. Next, performed ILS versus multiple car (MRCS) cases, designed mimic configuration jam-like conditions (i.e. rows idling cars) canyon. Different levels geometrical simplifications total rates considered. Although research study focuses these aforementioned specific set conclusions relate solely circumstances, show that overall-averaged associated MRCS simplified source-geometry cases about 1.18-6.22 times larger than ILS. Thus, may be inadequate real scenarios. This contribute enhancing pollution prediction accuracy reduce potential risk human exposure.

Hazardous pollutant containment zones should be maintained at a pressure lower than the outdoor atmospheric to prevent pollutants from escaping environment. However, wind conditions can cause breaching of zone that is established through mechanical ventilation. This paper combines external (Pe) time series on an internally depressurized building with carefully designed ventilation network analyze indoor (Pi) and breach duration. The Pe data are obtained by wind-tunnel (WT) tests computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations large-eddy simulation (LES) scale-adaptive (SAS). objectives (1) comparing results WT CFD; (2) assessing impact uncertainties in CFD resulting Pi duration; (3) estimating duration for initial case study depressurization -40 Pa reference speed (Uref) 12.65 m/s height. discussed terms dimensionless coefficients (Cpe Cpi). It shown LES especially SAS Cpe deviate substantially values but these Cpi remains fairly limited. Deviations statistics fall within experimental uncertainty, deviates generally less 10% result. Estimated durations Uref = m/s, however, go up 80% spite −40 depressurization, stressing importance this type studies.
