The pharmacological effects of pomegranates have been described considering metabolic aspects such as hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic activities. pomegranate extract has activity on the central nervous system (CNS) a natural antidepressant anxiolytic. chemical composition is complex since bioactive compounds are multiple secondary metabolites that identified in extracts derived from peel, seed, flowers, leaves, or their combination; so, it not easy to identify an individual compound responsible for its observed properties. From this point view, present review analyzes crude fractions possible mechanisms action concerning antidepressant- anxiolytic-like animal models. Serotonin receptors, estrogen peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), monoamine oxidase enzymes, well potent antioxidant neuroplasticity properties, mediators involved behaviors after treatment. CNS experimental models associated with specific stress level suggest could simultaneously modulate response by activating several targets. For review, scientific evidence was gathered integrate pathway be pomegranate's effects. Furthermore, potential benefits discussed comorbid conditions anxiety depression, perimenopause transition pain.

Cholinergic interneurons (ChIs) act as master regulators of striatal output, finely tuning neurotransmission to control motivated behaviors. ChIs are a cellular target many peptide and hormonal neuromodulators, including corticotropin releasing factor, opioids, insulin leptin, which can influence an animal's behavior by signaling stress, pleasure, pain nutritional status. However, little is known about how sex hormones via estrogen receptors the function these other neuromodulators. Here, we performed in situ hybridization on mouse tissue characterize effect choline acetyltransferase (
