The wide variety of perspectives and actions individual anglers contribute greatly to success or failure when adopting implementing fisheries management tools. Catch-and-release (C&R) is one such tool where influenced by both variation in human factors, but also species fishery specific characteristics. Abstract Recreational fisheries contribute substantially to the sociocultural and economic well‐being of coastal riparian regions worldwide, but climate change threatens their sustainability. Fishery managers require information on how will impact key recreational species; however, absence a global assessment hinders both directed widespread conservation efforts. In this study, we present first vulnerability recreationally targeted fish species from marine freshwater environments (including diadromous fishes). We use projections data species’ physiological ecological traits quantify map analyze these patterns alongside indices socioeconomic value effort determine where efforts are sufficient they might fall short. found that over 20% fishes vulnerable under high emission scenario. These shortcomings may be due inadequate education fishery managers.

Abstract Facing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, government agencies had to quickly react and provide guidelines for outdoor activities such as recreational fishing. Here we review information provided by provincial state natural resource management in North America during March–April 2020 period collate freshwater fishing regulations implemented pandemic. Among 63 jurisdictions which was collected, 92% kept season open, asking anglers practice social distancing at all times. Although open most jurisdictions, specific measures industry (e.g., guides) were enforced comply with public health rules. Some altered stocking practices, restricted non-residents, withdrew permits competitive angling events, instituted restrictions on charter guide industry. This overview context a major pandemic provides fisheries managers portrait some taken other jurisdictions.

Growing interest in apps to collect recreational-fisheries data requires that relationships between self-reported and other fisheries are evaluated, potential biases assessed. This study compared results from a mobile-phone application website for anglers (MyCatch) three types of surveys — 1 provincial-level mail survey, 2 creel, 17 gillnet surveys. Results suggest an app can (i) recruit users have broad spatial distribution is similar conventional surveys, (ii) generate capture regional fishing patterns (2218 trips on 289 lakes 90 streams or rivers), (iii) provide catch rate estimates those fisheries-dependent Some (e.g., urban bias) the relative composition species caught provincially were identified.
