Abstract Detecting the influence of temperature on urban vegetation is useful for planning biodiversity conservation efforts, since affects several ecosystem processes. In this study, relationships between land surface (LST) and phenology events (start growing season, SOS; end EOS; peak phenology) was examined in native savannah woodland grass parcels a hot climate town. For comparison, similar town’s periphery, wetland, were used. The parcel LST values (°C) one calendar year (2023) obtained from Landsat-8 (L8) Landsat-9 (L9) thermal imagery, whose combination yielded an 8-day image frequency. Phenology changes relative to seasonal air determined using index (VI) computed accompanying 30 m resolution L8-L9 non-thermal bands: Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) improved VI, Soil Adjusted (SAVI). Higher imaging frequency, 250 NDVI Enhanced (EVI) MOD13Q1 layers supplemented VIs. correlated highly with ( p < 0.001). On nearly all dates, parcel’s mean higher 0.001) than that at its peri-urban equivalent. Improved VIs (SAVI, EVI) detected some have occurred slightly earlier by NDVI. Associated LST, SOS woodland. This association has scarcely been demonstrated vegetation, necessitating proactive efforts reduce potential effects.
