In recent years, the primary sector in Italy and elsewhere has been profoundly affected by climate change a deep economic crisis, mainly linked to stagnating prices rising production costs. Because of this situation, we are witnessing renewed interest alternative agricultural productions, which characterized their resilience sustainability, including medicinal aromatic plants (MAPs). This is certain heterogeneity due great variety species wide range uses. Although these characteristics contribute sector’s success, they also hinder its study commodity complexity limited data availability. At farm level, situation complicated fact that MAP cultivation often embedded complex cropping systems, more rarely, practiced exclusively or predominantly. light considerations, concentrated solely on phase supply chain, using available Farm Accountancy Data Network. We aimed examine main structural outcomes Italian farms grow MAP, as well profitability some species. To ensure accurate classification, only MAPs designated for botanical use National List were considered. The analysis performance indicators (gross output, variable costs, gross margins, etc.) focused most represented sample: saffron, rosemary, lavender, oregano, sage. results indicate total output margin show best case saffron (66,200 57,600 EUR/ha, respectively) rosemary (27,500 22,000 respectively). However, biggest cost concerns propagation (purchase bulbs), amounting 50% whereas fertilization ones particularly high sage rosemary.
