Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore a new grey relational analysis model measure the coupling relationship between indicators for water environment status assessment. Meanwhile, deals with problem that changing indicator order may result in degree relation. Design/methodology/approach binary index submatrix sample matrix given first. Then product and its own transpose used characteristics indicators. Thirdly, coefficient defined based on norm, proposed. Findings provides novel norm matrix. properties, normalization, symmetry, invariance multiplicative, are studied. also shows performs very well assessment eight cities along Yangtze River. Originality/value has supplemented improved theory panel data.

The water resources carrying capacity (WRCC) is a crucial indicator for assessing social, economic and ecological sustainability supported by resources. While there are abundant studies on the WRCC, remains need to thoroughly analyze driving effects of WRCC evolution. In this study, an index-based evaluation system was constructed, comprehensive model employed assess spatiotemporal evolution in Yellow River Basin (YRB) (Henan section). Then, forces factors were analyzed from perspective, thus clarifying differences. results indicated that (1) YRB section) exhibited growth trend 2010 2022, significantly higher upstream cities than downstream cities; (2) core changed social progress development; (3) key influencing per capita disposable income urban residents, urbanization rate gross domestic product (GDP) capita. This study offers novel research perspective increase contributes formulation targeted development measures.
