The paper reports an assessment of the quality some watercourses located in three Egyptian governorates by investigation organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides residues, distribution macroinvertebrates. Water sediment samples were collected from investigated sites Giza, Qalubeya Gharbeya governorates. results showed that total beta- hexachlorocyclohexane (β-HCH) was highest concentration amongst other both Giza governorates, Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) Governorate. In group, fenitrothion fenamiphos concentrations all samples. addition, gastropods dominant macroinvertebrates, sensitive organisms disappeared studied during seasons indicating a poor water quality. are highly polluted with residues which have harmful consequences for aquatic biodiversity human health.

Abstract Organic agriculture is increasingly promoted as a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional agriculture, it restricts the use of fertilisers and synthetic pesticides. However, impact both farming systems on aquatic biodiversity strongly debated. Ponds are abundant in agricultural landscapes contribute biodiversity. They also respond land very local scale. The present study assessed effects organic taxonomic diversity multiple groups organisms at regional spatial scales. We conducted broad scale field survey quantify differential environmental conditions ponds, community composition local, among site macrophytes, cladoceran zooplankton selected macroinvertebrates Belgian farmland ponds (Flanders). observed that was moderately positively associated with higher species richness for shoreline vegetation, but not other organism groups.
