The EU Mission on Climate Neutral and Smart Cities is an ambitious initiative aiming to involve a wide range of stakeholders deliver 100 climate-neutral smart cities by 2030. We analysed the information submitted in expressions interest 362 candidate cities. majority cities' strategies for climate neutrality include urban transport as main sector combine introduction new technologies with promotion public active mobility. combined from data CORDIS TRIMIS databases, applied clustering algorithm measure proximity foci H2020 funding. Our results suggest that preparedness correlated research innovation activities Horizon 2020 specific mobility significantly increased likelihood city be candidate. Among various technology pathways, appears have major role development solutions neutrality.

In line with an intensified call for reducing greenhouse emissions and curbing the effects of climate change, scientists experts have looked to information communication technology (ICT) digitization as critical tools more efficient use production energy. Consequently, research on ICT/digitization their impact environmental sustainability has witnessed exponential growth in last few decades. This study provides a systematic review relationship between over period from January 2000 April 2022. It aimed improve our understanding different theories channels governing ICT/digitization–environmental nexus, provide in-depth analysis discussion trends main empirical findings reviewed articles, highlight key avenues future research. total, 166 scientific articles examining 297 associations were selected this review. The results revealed that most studies used measures based change air pollution sustainability, traditional measures, e.g., mobile phone subscriptions internet users. also showed although found evidence improving negative association is concentrated 'Group of' countries. scarcity investigating nonlinear relationships sustainability.

Air pollution significantly impacts sustainable development and public health. Taking the implementation of China's Environmental Protection Tax Law in China as a quasi-natural experiment, this paper employs difference-in-differences (DID) spatial DID models to evaluate effects environmental tax reform on urban air pollution. The findings are follows. (1) can reduce pollution, series robustness tests have also been conducted provide further evidence. (2) Green technology innovation industrial structure upgrading from vital transmission mechanism for improve quality. (3) inhibits cities located north Qinling-Huaihe line big cities. (4) Moreover, not only promotes improvement local quality but has significant negative spillover effect, reducing neighboring research conclusions theoretical support policy suggestions promoting economic development, rationally optimizing protection policies improving

China is confronted with the dual constraints of economic transformation and carbon emission reduction. As digital economy a key force in promoting optimizing industrial structure, it crucial to analyze economy’s impact on reduction from perspective energy consumption value chain implications. We selected data 251 prefecture-level cities above 2011 2019 as research samples, measured development level using entropy method, constructed relevant regression models based two-way fixed effects, intermediary analysis, moderation analysis. The reveals that: (1) has significant contribution efficiency, there are regional heterogeneity city size differences; (2) can improve efficiency by reducing consumption. (3) From perspective, structure rationalization weakens improvement effect certain extent, whereas upgrading obviously enhances economy. findings enrich field environmental governance, contribute more comprehensive understanding mechanisms which affects well provide policy implications for enhancing use chain.
