Abstract The surface of Philippine natural zeolites (PNZs) was modified using the surfactant hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride (HDTMA-Cl) to improve its adsorption capacity sulfamethoxazole (SMX), a persistent organic pollutant and emerging contaminant. PNZs were with HDTMA based on their 100% 200% external cation exchange (ECEC) form monolayer bilayer HDTMA–modified (MHZ & BHZ). unmodified (UZs) surfactant–modified (SMNZs) characterized Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric Analysis-Derivative Thermogravimetry, Scanning Electron Microscopy Energy Dispersive x-ray X-Ray Diffraction confirm modification HDTMA. Antibiotics are a contaminant class of worldwide concern as they frequently detected in aquatic ecosystems. To better understand the impacts antibiotics on ecosystems, we conducted an outdoor mesocosm experiment which communities were exposed to different concentrations antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (0, 0.15, 1.5, 15 and 150 μg/L). These include mean (0.15 μg/L) maximum (15 ecosystems worldwide. Sulfamethoxazole was applied once week for eight consecutive weeks 1530 L mesocosms Netherlands, followed by eight-week recovery period. We evaluated phytoplankton-, bacterial- invertebrate responses during after exposure assessed organic matter decomposition. Contrary our expectations, consistent treatment-related effects algal bacterial could not be demonstrated. In addition, did significantly affect zooplankton macroinvertebrate communities. However, some specific taxa observed, with increase Mesostoma flatworm abundance (NOEC <0.15 eDNA analyses indicated negative insects Odonata at concentration μg/L. Overall, environmentally relevant result direct or indirect impairment entire ecological processes mesocosms. several demonstrated significant (in)direct from sulfamethoxazole. Comparison results literature showed inconsistent between studies using comparable, relevant, concentrations. Therefore, study highlights importance testing pharmaceuticals (such sulfamethoxazole) across multiple trophic levels spanning communities, fully its potential threats.

Contamination of agricultural ecosystems with antibiotics including sulfamethoxazole (SMX) can create favorable conditions to increase bacterial abundance in soil antibiotic-resistant genes and also affect plants. The aim this research was assess the phytotoxicity tomato after irrigation SMX degraded 20 min using non-thermal plasma-ozonation technique (T20). To achieve this, two experiments were performed at scales Petri dishes pots Solanum lycopersicum L. species, cultivar Zaraza, subjected treatments that compared a distilled water control. In plates, T20 solution improved root length seedling vigor indexes, but germination index, speed, biomass slightly decreased. soil, although reduced length, their growth not inhibited (15.3%), while plates they exhibited promotion effect 90% more than physical–chemical geochemical variables measured suitable for crop characteristics plant showed statistically significant variations harvesting. Predator-prey models are valuable in predicting population dynamics and revealing the feedback effects of factors such as sex ratio on ecosystem diversity. Specifically, this study innovatively constructed a small-scale differential equation model with quadratic correction term for ratio. It approximately linearly fitted functional relationship between food availability. Subsequently, several sets computer simulations were designed to iteratively under externally uncertain factors. The simulation results showed that biodiversity index H peaked at about 0.74 when reached 0. while possessed highest species richness. In addition, varied 0.56 0.78, number predators increased by an average 15% per generation proportion males increased, prey correspondingly decreased 10%. Meanwhile, Shannon-Wiener H-value nonlinearly increase less than 0.74, began decrease slowly exceeded 0.74. show has significant effect level
