ABSTRACT Energy poverty poses a significant challenge in the context of stringent environmental policies, particularly developing economies like China. This study investigates impact energy at household level from 2010 to 2022 using data China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). The analysis incorporates information 49,373 households across 25 regional administrative divisions, excluding regions with insufficient representation. We measure two proxies: proportion expenditure total income, and threshold indicator where spending more than 10% their budget on are classified as poor. Covariates include family size, age, education heads, characteristics (North–South division). Results reveal that northern experience significantly higher poverty, exacerbated by stricter policies climatic conditions. storage systems emerging critical mitigating factor, reducing costs smoothing consumption patterns. Policy implications suggest incentivizing affordable accessible technologies alleviate while ensuring sustainability.
