Regional integration plays a pivotal role in the socio-economic advancement of various global regions and is closely linked with expansion construction land. This major contributor to urban carbon emissions. Utilizing geographical regression discontinuity design (GRDD), this paper estimates impact land on emissions explores underlying mechanisms within regional process Yangtze River Delta (YRD), China. The findings reveal that significantly influences emissions, displaying an inverted “U”-shaped pattern. Furthermore, affects through transformation industrial structures, shifts consumption patterns, enhancements scientific technological investments. Our span performance from its early development stages relatively mature phase. also partially reveals how Delta, both megacities large- medium-sized cities, manages during strives for low-carbon reduction. These results can provide green growth recommendations balance development, social equity not only other agglomerations China but similar developing countries by altering utilization patterns.

The coexistence of urban expansion and shrinkage in China has become increasingly apparent; therefore, the current strategic model growth-oriented planning as top-level design needs to be adjusted. This paper focuses on city Baishan, which is a typical shrinking China, explores feasibility implementing concept smart cities by constructing coupled PLUS-SD model. results demonstrate following conclusions: (1) overall simulation superior that PLUS In areas with most changes construction land will located at edges landforms 2030. (2) Using traditional scenario would only exacerbate rate deepening incongruity between city’s population land. (3) require strict control scale optimization structure land, push direction healthy sustainable development. (4) scientific feasible plan for realizing efficient use cities.

Research on land use carbon emission efficiency (LUCEE) in the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) can aid formulating regional differentiated reduction strategies. In this work, inversion of emissions using night-time light (NTL) data and modified Carnegie Ames Stanford Approach (CASA) model were used to measure net from (NCELU). On basis, SBM-undesirable was assess LUCEE. Additionally, exploratory spatial analysis (ESDA), Dagum Gini coefficient, convergence further introduced analyze correlation, differences, trend Findings indicate that: (1) The NCELU showed an increasing fluctuation. During period 2006–2020, increased −168.58 million tons −724.65 tons. (2) LUCEE exhibited a three-phase fluctuating downward “decrease–rise–decrease”. first decreased 0.612 2006 0.544 2008, then gradually 0.632 2016, finally 0.488 2020. Spatially, manifested distribution characteristic “high north south, low middle”, with distinct clustering features. (3) overall coefficient study 0.1819 0.2461. primary contributor difference over entire sample hypervariable density. (4) PPRD its various subregions displayed significant features absolute conditional β convergence. speed fastest slowest central > west east, speeds 0.0505, 0.0360, 0.0212, respectively. Finally, policy recommendations are proposed achieve neutrality for PPRD.

In recent years, the “dual carbon” issue has become a major focus of international community. Changes in land use driven by anthropogenic activities have profound impact on ecosystem structure and carbon cycling. This study quantitatively assesses spatiotemporal changes cropland occupation supplementation Pearl River Delta from 2000 to 2020 using InVEST model, analyzing spatial clustering storage caused variations area. The PLUS model was employed simulate land-use patterns distribution four future development scenarios. results indicate following: (1) From 2020, net change rate area −0.81%, with decrease 16.49 km2 area, primarily converted built-up forest land. (2) Carbon exhibited pattern lower values center higher periphery. terrestrial 534.62 × 106 t 2000, 518.60 2010, 512.57 showing an overall decreasing trend. conversion main reason for decline total regional storage. (3) sequestration lost due significantly greater than loss compensated new cropland, indicating imbalance quality as crucial factor contributing loss. (4) Under ecological priority scenario, expansion reduction such were effectively controlled, resulting minimal soil organic pool is most active ecosystems significant Clarifying relationship between “cropland protection measures–land changes–ecosystem storage” will improve policies, provide references enhancement, support sustainable socio-economic development.

The number of city residents worldwide is increasing at the same that soil consumption around cities, which can be mitigated using technosols. Urban areas need to provide a healthy environment for residents, but this threatened by climate change. Mitigating adverse impacts change does not involve one-size-fits-all global solutions; cities face varying economic and social contexts. Cities offer ecosystem services in order operate as urban ecosystems. soils’ environmental are often overlooked, leading public administrations having little no awareness about land management policies services. Technosols, artificial or human altered soils, have potential benefits natural soils do require much time develop perform their functions. Additionally, technosols enhance circular economy waste materials. In sense, policy makers should incorporate strategy health address Our perspective on needs altered, included policies, serve crucial component providing acting carbon sink well-being.
