Abstract This research introduces an innovative approach by utilising rock glaciers (RGs) as a proxy for mapping debris‐covered (DCGs). focuses on the interconnected nature of glaciers, DCGs and RGs in continuum where can transform into over time due to various processes. study utilises six machine learning models—logistic regression (LR), support vector (SVM), K‐nearest neighbour (KNN), Naïve Bayes (NB), decision tree (DT) random forest (RF)—combined with multispectral satellite data (Sentinel‐2 Landsat 8) topographical derived from ALOS PALSAR DEM. Performance metrics such accuracy, area under curve (AUC) score, precision, recall F1‐score were evaluated assess model performance. detailed provides precise estimation extent Kinnaur district. The estimated DCG areas revealed intriguing variation across models, RF (9.71%), KNN (9.67%) NB (9.41%) yielding similar predictions. SVM (11.61%) projected slightly larger area, whereas DT (5.54%) LR (25.55%) provided contrasting results. Validation against high‐resolution images, Google Earth images glacier inventories confirmed accuracy reliability our approach. Based findings specific study, most effective method is RF, followed KNN, NB, SVM. combination models RG presents novel promising remote sensing‐based mapping, potential applications other regions broader environmental studies.
