The measurement of atmospheric deposition fluxes is an excellent tool for assessing the contamination territory and subsequent exposure population to major contaminants through food chain. In this context, aim study was measure polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) in city Rome (ISS Station) during year 2022/2023 at two different heights above ground (vertical profile), order evaluate influence that vertical profile has on PAH deposition. Two measuring positions were identified, one street level a height 20 m. collection bulk depositions carried out approximately every 30 days, PAHs determined according indications given ISTISAN Report 06/38 Standard UNI EN 15980:2011. results show throughout year, rates settleable dust always higher lower (annual average 48.5 mg m−2 day−1) position than 17.5 day−1). Despite difference, concentrations profiles main analyzed, as indicated EU Directive 2024/2881, collected almost similar, showing did not composition concentration dust. Furthermore, comparison sedimentable with legislative references currently present Europe made, highlighting monitoring period study, values limit guide also line other Italian urban locations.

Plant leaves can be used to determine the atmospheric deposition of organic contaminants, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), assess contamination status an area. The purpose this study was develop analytical method for determination PAHs deriving from using Malva sylvestris leaves. Analytes were recovered plant cyclohexane as solvent and subsequent sonication. percentage recoveries (R%) good (from 65.8 ± 3.2 104.2 16.9), together with instrumental parameters, correlation coefficients (r) ≥ 0.995 all PAHs. analysis carried out GC-MS in total ion current single monitoring at same time. Real samples taken urban environments have shown that they are not always most contaminated. At Palermo site, observed high amounts due dust generated by combustion processes occurred near sampling site. Further studies recommended compare use plants classical systems key contaminants toxic human health.

Rainwater is a source of freshwater that affects the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, consequently human health. Since potential toxic elements (PTEs) have been found in rainwater Southern Europe, its quality should be evaluated. This review assesses current knowledge Europe concerning PTEs, as well impact on environment The presence PTEs poses challenges simultaneously an opportunity for innovation environmental management, particularly water management. Further monitoring quality, research, policy development are needed to ensure remains viable safe resource. regarding harvesting measure drought mitigation, observed require investing treatment technologies. harvested can reduce health risks posed by while enhancing region’s resilience climate change scarcity.
