The Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale (BDEFS) is a multidimensional measure of executive functioning (EF). Yet, no work has validated the 20-item BDEFS short form (BDEFS-SF) among individuals at risk EF deficits, including college students who consume alcohol. current study evaluated factor structure and measurement invariance BDEFS-SF 867 undergraduates from 12 colleges/universities endorsed past-month alcohol use. bifactor model best fit data, supporting use general over five subscales for models, was partially supported across sex assigned birth. Four were uniquely associated with use, consequences, protective behavioral strategies. total score appears to be valid alcohol; however, more research needed increase clinical utility given lack support models.

Objective To adapt an existing measure of underage drinking disengagement among adolescents for use with university students and establish convergent validity.Method University who drank or used a substance in the past month (n = 893) from 12 U.S. universities (Mage=19.48, age range 18–25; White 74.1%; Female 68.1%) completed online survey as part larger study assessing their attitudes toward on campus (adapted disengagement) alcohol consumption (AUDIT-C).Results The EFA indicated that 2-factor structure fit data well. factors were Cognitive Restructuring Minimizing Agency, which was confirmed CFA (χ2(64)=250.11, p<.001; CFI=.93; TLI=.92; RMSEA=.08, 90% CI RMSEA: .07 to .09; SRMR=.04). Agency positively correlated consumption, (r=.35, p<.001, r =.21, respectively).Conclusions Clinicians can benefit using students' responses this challenge beliefs young adults hold about acceptability while underage, well actions authority figures peers decrease perceived responsibility students. Future research examine under what conditions people disengage its link other problematic behaviors involving alcohol.

This study investigated differences in alcohol protective behavioral strategy (PBSA) use and negative consequences (ARNC) experienced among heavy users non-heavy users, risky non-risky drinkers. Participants were from 12 universities the United States ( n = 2,163 college students, M age 19.47), predominantly identified as White (74%), female (68.7%), who completed measures of typical weekly drinking, ARNC, PBSA use. ANOVAs revealed that drinkers reported significantly fewer total PBSA, subtype use, greater than their counterparts. Harm reduction interventions may benefit identifying targeting students are engaging drinking regardless sex.
