Abstract
Background
There
is
an
increase
in
smartphone
usage
globally.
Cyberchondria
(CYB)
characterized
by
excessive
Internet
searches
for
health
information.
Smartphone
addiction
constantly
rising
among
medical
students
together
with
CYB
as
a
collateral
emerging
risk,
yet
there
limited
research
available
on
the
topic.
Methods
This
cross-sectional
study
explores
phenomenon
of
and
its
potential
role
seven
Egyptian
universities.
A
total
1435
participated
completing
online
questionnaires
that
assessed
using
Addiction
Scale-Short
Version
(SAS-SV)
Severity
Scale
(CSS-12).
Multivariable
regression
analysis
was
applied
to
assess
predictors
CYB.
Results
Based
used
scales,
57.6%
were
suffering
from
addiction,
85.8%
exhibited
moderate
degree
significant
positive
correlation
between
scores
(
p
<
0.05).
The
multivariable
models
revealed
four
factors
including
Facebook,
WhatsApp,
increasing
time
spent
per
day,
higher
score
probability
addiction.
