Different thinking and strategies are needed to transform our food systems at different scales. Food can be changed towards a more sustainable path through multi-stakeholder transformative governance the landscape level because that is where national-level visions, objectives, policies meet with local practice, priorities, actions. Concrete practical guidance on how effectively put process into practice missing. Through Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded ‘Food Systems, Land Use Restoration Impact Programme’, led by World Bank, countries supported in integrated management (ILM) ensure production embedded within wider landscapes safeguard natural capital ecosystem services which they depend. A customised methodology assess measure effectiveness of ILM-relevant governance, incorporating rights-based planning tenure aspects, has been developed makes explicit ILM process. This aims improve landscape-level institutional coordination, coherence, collaboration enhanced horizontal vertical coordination network dynamics. The conceptual framework operationalise it explained illustrated application country projects Kenya, Nigeria, Viet Nam. Making will require investments time capabilities, but allows act as catalyst pathways.

Exploring alternative land-uses, particularly alternatives to traditional productivist systems, is a key part of the transition towards sustainable future agricultural systems. However, decision-making around suitability and land use complex has far reaching implications that extend beyond farm gate across catchment, region, along value chain. For Māori decision-makers governors this complexity increased due unique challenges, including tenure system governing freehold land, alongside multiple often conflicting objectives high numbers landowners. There diverse range expertise amongst entities decision-makers, with smaller medium-sized unable access information required for quality decision-making. This paper presents Pohewa Pae Tawhiti (Visualising Horizons), prototype multi-model framework led by Te Arawa Arataua support decisions land-use options. integrates modelled data guided discussion processes address gap in theory practice culturally consistent framework. Integrated transport and land-use planning reduced car dependency proffers a pathway to mobility justice poverty, whilst providing opportunities for potential health benefits reducing carbon emissions. In spite of this, smaller cities towns face opposition the reallocation road space away from private car. Traditionally, measures have been responsive growing car-use. To accelerate behavioural shift sustainable modes, an evidence-based, transformative approach is required that consultative in nature, inclusive all relevant stakeholders nurtures innovation. The study aims achieve this by co-creating theory change, with broad group community. Systems science co-creation techniques were utilised enable informed decision-making foster shared learning, resulting change formulated vision.
