Abstract Polymeric materials, despite their many undeniable advantages, nowadays are a major environmental challenge. Thus, in recent years biodegradable polymer matrices have been widely used various sectors, including the medicinal, chemical, and packaging industry. Their widespread use is due to properties of matrices, among which adjustable physicochemical mechanical properties, as well lower impact. The polymers can be modified with types nanofillers, clays, organic inorganic nanoparticles, carbon nanostructures most commonly used. performance final product depends on size uniformity distribution dispersion matrix. An on-package colorimetric label was fabricated using Hibiscus sabdariffa L. anthocyanin as a freshness indicator because its color depends on pH. The anthocyanins were embedded within chitosan matrix. labels applied to estimate the spoilage of fish food during storage at 25 °C for 3 days. According scanning electron microscopy results, inclusion in matrix resulted formation dense and uniform film. had acceptable thicknesses (78–85 µm), moisture contents (14–16%), swelling indices (84–102%), water vapor permeabilities (3.0–3.2 × 10−11 g m/m2 s Pa), tensile strengths (11.3–12.3 MPa), elongation breaks (14–39%). It is noteworthy that can distinguish by turn from light brown (fresh) grayish (spoiled) naked-eye, due alterations pH content volatile basic nitrogen storage. Our results indicate all-natural be an effective method monitor storage, which may improve quality sustainability.

This paper focuses on the combination of gelatin (Gel), pectin (Pec), and Pistachio peel anthocyanins (PSAs) to develop a halochromic film for food applications (shrimp). The results spectroscopic properties showed that components had proper interaction compatibility. Furthermore, addition PSAs Pec improved thermal stability films. significantly physical mechanical resistance So that, permeability water vapor oxygen reduced from 2.81 2.74 (g‧s−1‧Pa−1‧m−1) 5.25 4.70 (meq/kgO2), respectively. In addition, strength flexibility reached 0.7 MPa 56 % compared Gel (0.62 MPa, 46.96 %). Most importantly, color changes smart cherry/pink yellow/brown, which were proportional anthocyanin solution at different pHs, able monitor shrimp freshness spoilage room (20 °C) refrigerated (4 temperature 14 days.

Meat is a widely consumed food globally; however, variations in storage conditions along its supply chain can pose potential safety risk for consumers. Addressing this concern, we have developed freshness indicators designed to monitor the condition of packaged chicken. In study, anthocyanins were infused with cellulose paper measuring 2 × cm, and subsequent analysis focused on examining color changes concerning deteriorating chicken stored at 30°C 48 h, varying sample sizes being considered. The rise total volatile nitrogen (TVB-N) compounds from an initial value 3.64 ± 0.39 mg/100 g 28.17 1.46 acted as stimulus change indicator, simultaneously influencing pH 7.03 0.16 8.12 0.39. microbial load (aerobic plate count) samples was also significantly increased. This collective shift various parameters strongly suggests occurrence spoilage meat. exhibited dark pink red fresh As meat turned towards spoilage, changed blue then pale green color. FTIR spectroscopy results confirmed presence anthocyanins. validated immobilization plum within assessed their stability after 8 months storage. Notably, demonstrated rapid sensitivity, showing 20.5% response one minute ammonia exposure, which further increased 29.5% 3 min exposure. difference (ΔE) steadily rose all examined under conditions. Abstract This study explores the utilization of lignocellulosic biomass derived from Syzygium cumini seeds ( S. Cumini ) as an eco‐friendly reinforcing filler for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) composites. The need sustainable and biodegradable materials in polymer applications motivated this work, particularly to address environmental concerns associated with conventional PVC. Composite films varying concentrations seed were prepared using solution casting technique. structural integrity interactions within composites confirmed through X‐ray diffraction (XRD) Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. SEM analysis showed average particle size 6–14 μm also revealed modifications morphology upon addition. Biodegradability was assessed hydrolytic degradation soil‐burial tests, indicating enhanced compatibility compared pure hydrophilicity improved, indicated by increasing water contact angle 79.4° (hydrophilic) 107° (hydrophobic). Suppressed aureus activity PVC composite film has shown its antimicrobial behavior. These properties suggest that – reinforced can serve promising polymer‐based medical devices, offering resistance bacterial contamination while addressing sustainability challenges. Highlights Lignocellulosic used films. extract improved Hydrolytic dehydration tests biodegradability. Hydrophilicity increased, evidenced a rise angle. Better enhances use devices.
