Modified citrus pectin (MCP) is used as a nutritional supplement that inhibits galectin-3 activity, central player in the cardiac damage associated with different pathological situations. In fact, we have previously observed MCP improved function obese infarcted rats was reduction fibrosis. Therefore, aim of present study to further explore whether this effect could involve modulation gene expression ECM components and their mediators well it affect another two mechanisms involved damage: mitochondrial dynamics autophagic flux.

Pectin is a natural polymer that found in the cell walls of higher plants. This study presents comprehensive analysis pectin extracted from lemon two different geographic regions (Peddie and Fort Beaufort) consecutive years (2023 2024) named PP 2023, 2024, FBP 2024. The dried peels were ground into powder, sifted to obtain particles 500 μm, then subjected extraction using conventional method involving mixing peel powder with distilled water, adjusting pH level 2.0 HCl, heating mixture at 70 °C for 45 min, filtering acidic extract, precipitating ethanol. yield these samples was statistically significant, as 2024 had maximum 12.2 ± 0.02%, 13.0 2023 0.03%, 13.1 variation could be due differences growing conditions, such climate soil, which have affected content lemons. physicochemical characterization all proved our used pharmaceutical food industries, anhydrouronic acid greater than 65%, suggested by FAO. scanning electron microscope rough jagged, while commercial displayed smooth surface morphology consistent size.
