Residential solid fuel combustion (RSFC) is a key cause of air pollution in China. In these serial studies, field measurements RSFC from 166 rural households eastern China were conducted to update the database emission factors (EFs) and chemical profiles gaseous particulate organic pollutants, present study focuses on intermediate volatile compounds (IVOCs), which are precursors secondary aerosol (SOA). The results show that averaged EFs IVOCs (EFIVOC) for crop straw, fuelwood, coal 550.7 ± 397.9, 416.1 249.5, 361.9 308.0 mg/kg, respectively, among EFIVOC gasoline vehicle, diesel non-road machinery, heavy oil vessel, significantly affected by fuel, stove, efficiency. percentages normal alkanes (n-alkanes), branched (b-alkanes), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), unresolved complex mixture 3.5 1.6, 8.0 3.7, 17.6 6.7, 70.9 8.1%, compositions featured lower b-alkanes higher PAHs than those vehicle sources. proportions some individual n-alkanes (such as n-C12–n-C15, naphthalene, its alkyl substituents) can be used indicators differentiate sources, while methoxyphenols distinguish biomass burning combustion. Based China's energy statistics, total IVOC emissions 2014 175.9 Gg. These data will help inventory improve estimates SOA production

Abstract Nitrate is an important component of atmospheric particulate matter and affects air quality, climate, human health, the ecosystem. was previously considered a permanent sink for nitrogen oxides (NO x ). However, this viewpoint has been challenged in recent years because growing research evidence shown transformation nitrate into NO (i.e., renoxification). The photolysis nitrate/HNO 3 , especially phase or adsorbed on particles, can be significant renoxification process atmosphere. formation aerosol not only change diurnal variation but also provide long-distance transport form nitrate, which local regional chemistry quality. This review summarizes advances fundamental understanding under various conditions, with focus mechanisms key factors affecting process. implications are discussed future recommended.

Abstract. Although many considerable efforts have been done to reveal the driving factors on haze aggravation, however, roles of aerosol liquid water (ALW) in secondary inorganic (SIA) formation were mainly focused condition content (ALWC) < 100 µg m−3. Based situ high-resolution field observations, this work studied decisive and shifting mechanisms during revealing different ALWC a broader scale (∼500 m−3) nitrate sulfate induced by aqueous chemistry ammonia-rich atmosphere. The results showed that chemical domains perturbation gas limiting generation particulate matter presented obvious shifts from HNO3-sensitive HNO3- NH3-co-sensitive regime with indicating powerful effects ammonia When 75 m−3, was preferentially triggered high utilization then accelerated nitrogen oxide oxidation clean moderate pollution stages, characterized ratio (NOR) 0.3, sulfur (SOR) 0.4, transition (NTR) 0.7 moral NO3-/SO42-=2:1. > aqueous-phase reaction SO2 NH3 ALW became prerequisite for SIA driven Henry's law atmosphere heavy serious SOR (0.5–0.9), NOR (0.3–0.5) NTR (>0.7), as well NO3-/SO42-=1:1. A positive feedback production also observed due shift partitioning variation aggravation. It implies target controlling should not simply focus NO2, but more attention be paid gaseous precursors (e.g., SO2, NH3) constitution stages.

Abstract Aerosol nitrate has become the most abundant compound during aerosol pollution in eastern China. The Chinese government implemented a stringent policy 2013–2017 to tackle pollution. However, response of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) reduction is unclear owing limitation long‐term measurement. Here, we performed 9‐year continuous measurement compositions Shanghai and confirmed decrease species except nitrate. contribution fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 increased significantly, reaching up 35% episodes after 2017. This contrast evident NO emissions. We found that elevated dinitrogen pentoxide (N 2 O 5 hydrolysis responsible for observed trend. Increased ozone decreased dioxide (NO) facilitated formation N , proportion promoted uptake eventually enhanced conversion efficiency Our results highlight importance synergic control

BJ SMX had different pollution characteristics. Direct vehicle emission made contribution to observed about 28% BJ, whereas it contributed only 12% SMX. Additionally, direct from coal combustion also significant atmospheric HONO, which could achieve be 13%. In nighttime NO 2 conversion on aerosol ground surfaces 15% 27%, respectively. SMX, 40% 30%, Daytime heterogeneous (including photo‐enhanced conversion) was important 3 − photolysis 9% 4% BJ. The primary OH production rates daytime both three orders magnitude faster than those O , revealing dominant role local chemistry winter.
