Background Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common psychological condition affecting 10–20% of postpartum women, characterized by emotional instability, anxiety, and, in severe cases, hallucinations or suicidal ideation. Growing evidence suggests link between oxidative stress and depression, with nitrite—a key metabolite nitric oxide (NO)—emerging as potential biomarker. This study explores the association salivary nitrite levels, perinatal PPD, aiming to identify predictive factors for early intervention.

This, turn, improve outcomes for birthing parents experiencing distress. We undertook group-based multi-trajectory modeling (GBMTM) uncover patterns affective disorders (anger, depression) over three-time points (pregnancy, 3-, 12-months postpartum (mPP)) a large longitudinal cohort persons who gave birth during COVID-19 pandemic (n = 2145). identified five trajectory groups: high-stable (11.3%), postpartum-increase (16.0%), postpartum-decrease (21.5%), low-stable (37.9%), minimal stable (13.2%) anger, depression. Multinomial regression revealed that lower levels sleep disturbance, less financial hardship, intolerance uncertainty predicted decreases compared with high group. Higher greater level social support, increases minimal-stable groups.
