The proliferation of Internet Things (IoT) devices in smart cities has revolutionized urban infrastructure while escalating the risk botnet attacks that threaten essential services and public safety. This research addresses critical need for intrusion detection mitigation systems by introducing a novel hybrid deep learning model, Stacked Autoencoder–Gated Recurrent Unit (SAE-GRU), specifically designed IoT networks cities. study targets dual challenges processing high-dimensional data recognizing temporal patterns to identify mitigate activities real time. methodology integrates Autoencoders reducing dimensionality gated recurrent units analyzing sequential ensure both accuracy efficiency. An emulated city environment with diverse communication protocols provided realistic testbed evaluating model. Results demonstrate significant improvements performance an average 98.65 percent consistently high precision recall values. These findings enhance understanding security offering scalable resource-efficient solution detection. functional investigation establishes foundation future into adaptive mechanisms address emerging threats highlights practical potential advanced techniques safeguarding next-generation ecosystems.
