Various sustainable energy conversion techniques like water electrolyzers, fuel cells, and metal-air battery devices are promising to alleviate the issues in fossil consumption. However, their broad employment has been mainly inhibited by lack of advanced electrocatalysts accelerate sluggish kinetics three involved half-reactions including oxygen evolution reaction (OER), reduction (ORR), hydrogen (HER). Recent advances have witnessed cucurbit[n]uril (CB[n])-directed strategy as a prominent tool develop high performance with either OER, ORR, or HER activities. In this review, recent progress on CB[n]-derived ranging from molecular complexes heterogeneous nanostructures single-atoms for reviewed, future opportunities discussed. A concise introduction fundamentals CB[n]s regarding synthesis, structure, chemistry is given first. Subsequently, systematic summary OER/ORR/HER discussed detail, specific emphasis correlating structure activities combining diverse physiochemical characterizations, electrochemical experiments, theory simulations. Finally, brief conclusion perspective many other electrocatalytic applications proposed.
