Abstract Constructed wetlands (CWs) can be considered as an efficient nature-based solution for the treatment of agricultural drainage water (ADW) and consequently mitigation non-point source pollution. Aiming to provide suggestions construction implementation CWs, this paper proposes discusses key parameters CW design operation. In order verify effect these features, different case studies were reviewed, focusing on performance CWs that are treating water. The findings showed operational factors (e.g., application simple hydraulic structures vegetation establishment) improve pollutant removal efficiencies by increasing retention time. Hydraulic efficiency also enhanced through certain shape characteristics adoption a high aspect ratio creation long narrow shape). careful consideration before during therefore help systems achieve their full potential. However, further study is recommended assess effects some flow direction deep zones).
