Abstract Background The present investigation represents the first attempt to fully describe morphology of geese tongue. Tongue has an essential biological role in all vertebrates, it is considered a prehensive organ, as responsible for food collection, also aids mastication and swallowing. Since tongue was varied among bird species linked different reasons such beak shape, environment, feeding habits type diet, that’s why purpose this study investigate detail concerning its function. Methodology Eleven adult healthy Egyptian both sexes were used study, heads these birds collected, processed gross investigation, morphometrical analysis, light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy. Result geese's unique, had narrow elongated shape with round thin free apex, ventral keratinized lingual nail caudal torus linguae. apex body two groups shaped sized marginal papillae. rostral group 9-10 spaced small conical papillae pointed apices on lateral margin apex. And 6-7 widely large thorn like papillae, positioned portion body. Geese's supported entoglossal bone that extended from tip transverse row where articulate basibranchial bone. Conclusion collected data described dorsum covered stratified squamous epithelium mechanical which necessary herbivorous geese, depended grassing behavior. Besides keratinization sign modification protecting tissue against hard particles. Conducting morphological results about offers guidance insights adaptation function management species.
