Globally, society faces significant problems, from climate crisis to persistent poverty. Education for Sustainable Development offers an approach achieving a sustainable society. The challenge is creating changemakers with the knowledge, mindset, and competencies innovate. Teaching sustainability tends be discipline-specific, taught content-heavy via “spoon-feeding” neglecting student agency changes. To overcome these challenges, we developed programme “teach” innovation that combines transformative learning design thinking as pedagogy. Classes were anchored by solving real-world challenge, facilitating experience transformation into new knowledge. Design Thinking transdisciplinary methodology helps different disciplines collaborate on addressing complex problems. However, there limited empirical evidence support effectiveness of this pedagogy in education. What value combining Transformative Learning education? Based University College Dublin Innovation Academy’s Professional Diploma Sustainability, address research question exploring impacts design. Data collected during after through students’ reflections observation field notes teaching sections. Findings show supported developing literacy, creative confidence. All characteristics becoming changemaker.

This study conducted a University Science and Technology northern Taiwan. Nursing students taking elective were included as experimental group (n = 150). Age- gender-matched without control Two self-reported questionnaires, Taiwanese version Creative Synthesis Inventory (CSI-TW) Thinking Traits Questionnaire (DTTQ-TW), used to before after test. Analysis covariance (ANCOVA) adjustment for pre-test mean scores performed differences adjusted post-test between two groups. The ANCOVA analysis indicated had significantly improved total subscale CSI-TW compared those group. Although score DTTQ-TW well feedback-seeking experimentalism enhanced than their counterparts, no significant integrative thinking, optimism, collaboration observed overall provided quantitative evidence support implementation facilitate
